Callowhill, The Loft District

The Callowhill neighborhood is roughly located in the vicinity of Callowhill Street, between Vine Street, Spring Garden Street, Broad Street, and 8th Street. It is named for Hannah Callowhill Penn, William Penn's second wife.  Also referred to as the Loft District because of its many converted factories-turned-loft-apartments for rent. Here, you'll find no shortage of unique housing options. This neighborhood packs a big musical punch. Performance venues such as Underground Arts and Union Transfer host events nearly every night of the week. Prohibition Taproom, a local favorite, serves up farm-fresh food, plus local beer by Yard's Brewing Company.

This area attracts both professionals and students due to its close proximity to the Community College of Philadelphia and Temple University. A car isn't necessary, as most nearby places can be reached on foot. If you do opt to drive, several highways, such as I-95 and the Schuylkill Expressway, can be reached within minutes.
